It is becoming apparent that electrons themselves are an important nutrient to address inflammation which is why I call them a Vitamin in the title.   I hope you are not put off by technical info because this stuff is really interesting.   I’ll give you the bottom line up front then you can skip to the bottom for the how-to’s. (See post index to the right  )

Electrons supplied to the body via microcurrents act like very high powered anti-oxidants in that they supply electrons to fortify the cell walls, reduce inflammation and obviate the need for infection.  Anti-oxidants, like Vitamin C, are electron donors – but so is electricity, both of which are helpful in an inflammatory process.

Let me suggest a summary of the topic of Electromedicine found in Electricity for Health in the 21st Century by Carole Punt which you can download for free.

Brief History of Electrical Therapy

Electro-therapy shows up during the days of the Roman Empire when Greek physicians had their

One of many species of ‘electric’ fish

patients stand on electric torpedo fish to resolve certain ailments. Scribonius Largus records: “For any type of gout a live black torpedo should, when the pain begins, be placed under the feet … in this way Anteros, a freeman of Tiberius, was cured.”  (Gout is an inflammatory disease.)
Man-generated electricity was used for healing as early as 1747.  A professor of experimental philosophy and mathematics in Geneva restored life to the paralyzed arm of a blacksmith using an electric current.
James L. Oschman, author of Energy Medicine, The Scientific Basis, states that by 1884 it was estimated that 10,000 physicians in the USA were using electricity every day for therapeutic purposes.
Georges Lakhovsky, published a book, The Secret of Life, in 1935 to describe the variety of disease conditions that were healed in humans, animals and plants with his Multiple Wave Electric Oscillator.
During this same time, Royal Raymond Rife, was having success clearing cancer with his bio-electric device.  The Healing of Cancer summarizes Rife’s story.  The author, Barry Lynes, writes,  “In association with the University of Southern California, a number of clinics used Rife’s technology to cure terminal cancer during the period 1934–1938. Some of the leading researchers in the country and leading physicians in Southern California participated.”  But as medical and pharmaceutical dominance of the health care system closed in, his research ended. Why did these electrical health devices have to go underground? Read Lynes’ book.
Björn Nordenström, a medical doctor in Sweden, and author of Biologically Closed Electric Circuits (1983) used electricity for cancer patients also.  He wrote, “… all living systems contain numerous functioning electrical circuits. … These circuits exist in all bodily functions and … determine the well being of the body.”

Lots of electrons!!

Robert (Bob) C. Beck, D.Sc. reported the following, “My archives contain a tantalizing report from several decades ago describing an authenticated record of an older man who was struck by lightning, survived, and subsequently grew a third set of teeth and a bushy head of youthful new dark hair. His grossly metastasized, inoperable cancers vanished. He threw away his glasses and cane, and appeared much younger and was totally healthy for the first time ever…. The incident generated wide speculation but few insights at the time. This mystery remained sleeping until 1990 when an astounding discovery was reported at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in NYC by Drs. Kaali and Wyman.  Not surprisingly, these data were apparently immediately suppressed (US Pat#5,188,738). (See Science News; Mar. 30, ’91 pg. 207; and Longevity: Dec.’ 92 pg. 14.)”

The electric currents are needed for life and healing

Robert O. Becker, M.D., proved the electrical nature of the nervous system and the brain.

Dr. Becker found that the nerve sheaths are not merely insulation but serve to conduct electricity to all the tissues.

In The Body Electric, he states that the sheaths surrounding the nerves themselves are not merely insulation. They function as wires to conduct electricity that reaches “… into each area of the body to create a normal electrical environment around each cell, or, a stimulatory one when healing growth is needed.”  He also stated, “It is now evident that a wide variety of waveforms, pulse shapes, frequencies, and current densities will give considerable pain relief.”

Dr. Patrick Flanagan explains that blood and all cellular fluids must have a high enough negative charge (Zeta Potential =electrons) to keep all particulates in suspension otherwise they clump together and form a sludge.  Zeta Potential is boosted by applying microcurrents of electricity. (See blood electrification below)

Ancient cultures respected the impact of electric current in healing by using accupuncture and  Jin Shin Jyutsu (JSJ) to manipulate them.   Currents within the body are produced by invisible energetic fields circulating around and through the body.  These flows actually create opposite polarities on the hands.   Placing the hands on specific locations of the body serves to restore or complete these flows.  Healing results.

What creates ‘electron deficiencies’?

Dr. Flanagan noted that emotional states cause our electrical readings to fluctuate widely.  (The energetic field around us induces or creates electrical currents within our bodies much like the electromagnetic fields from the cell phone tower induce a current on your cell phone to make it ring.)   Therefore therapies that balance emotional states, bring order to, or enhance the field around us, and enhance the current flowing in our bodies. Conversely, anything that disturbs calm emotional states, or diminishes or disorders this orderly flow will diminish the electricity induced on the body. This means less electricity flowing resulting in lower vitality.

According to Jin Shin Jyutsu, ‘attitudes’ cause disharmony and disorder in the energy flows of the body.  JSJ ‘brings harmony’ to the disordered flows which have been made chaotic due to ‘attitudes’.  This understanding is supported by modern research that shows that stress causes disease. A wealth of electrons means an increase in well-being, conversely, a decrease means a sense of malaise, depression, and anxiousness.

Increasing electrons by food and attitude

In his book, Healing is Voltage, Dr. Jerry Tennant, MD states that in order for the body to support healthy cells a voltage of -25mV is needed but, to create a new healthy cell, a voltage of -50mV is required (i.e. more electrons).   He states,  “The human body is controlled primarily by electronics (physics) not chemistry.”   In cancerous tissue the electrical potential of cell membranes is maintained at a lower level than that of healthy cells and electrical connections are disrupted.

Johanna Budwig states that an electron-rich food intake must achieve priority for healing.

Reporting on Dr. Patrick Flanagan’s research in Towards a New Alchemy,  Nick Begich tells how ingesting raw amino acids, the building blocks for protein, boosted the energy or electrical readings of the acupuncture points dramatically.

Increasing electrons by electro-medicine devices

Clearly ‘electron deficiencies’ can be met by electrical devices supplying microcurrents to donate electrons to help provide the cellular environment with a healthier voltage.

Robert (Bob) C. Beck, D.Sc. was a researcher who had a great interest in the field of electro-medicine.   An internet search will yield his impressive bio and accomplishments.   He developed several simple electric devices and widely published the instructions for building these devices at home to allow greater public accessibility to this simple technology (see below).   The blood ‘electrifier’, the magnetic pulser and the brain tuner are the three of interest here.

Typical dark-field microscopy blood samples after (above) and before (below) blood electrification.

The Blood ‘Electrifier’.  Beck developed a device inspired by a US patent (see Kaali above) showing that microcurrents of electricity proved “to render the bacteria, virus, parasites and/or fungus ineffective to infect or affect the normally healthy cells while maintaining the biological usefulness of the blood or other fluids.”  The patent does not claim that the microcurrents killed the microbes, as some have assumed, but rather they appear to have fortified or energized the membranes of the blood cells, much like anti-oxidants do.  After discovering this patent, Beck developed a noninvasive version to pulse microcurrents into the blood where the arteries were close to the surface.  Blood examined under a darkfield microscope shows improvement after applying microcurrents from his device.  Red blood cells stop sticking together and thus circulate better, carry more oxygen and nourish more tissue than blood cells that clump together.  The transformation in the blood, as evidenced by live blood cell analysis, appears to resolve issues relating to the poor circulation of the blood.  More info here.

My view of what is actually happening here is that micropulsing the blood supplies electrons to reduce inflammation which was causing the red blood cells to agglutinate.

U.S. Patent Number 5,133,352 for the treatment of Herpes I and II states: “Low voltage electrical current actually recharges the energy level of the cell which changes the biochemical working of the cell at micro levels. This has been shown in recent studies to increase ATP energy production by up to 500%.”   This may be why individuals suffering from CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome) often report dramatic improvement in their energy level after applying microcurrents with Beck’s Blood ‘Electrifier’.  The researcher that filed this patent also reported that protein absorption into the cells increased between “30 and 40%” with the application of microcurrents.  And again, in this patent there is no claim that the herpes virus was ‘killed’.

A current through a coiled wire creates a magnetic field with a north and south ‘pole’. As the current changes, so does the magnetic field.

The Magnetic Pulser.   The effectiveness of the Blood ‘Electrifier’ above may be limited because blood may not flow freely into some tissue where lymph has stagnated – which is usually where the critical problems lie.   In these cases the currents need to be induced within the site by a pulsed magnetic field applied externally.   Magnetic fields easily penetrate stagnant tissue inducing microcurrents which produce similar benefits described with blood micropulsing above.  (This is not a simple magnet but rather a ‘pulsed’ electromagnet field (PEMF) where the strength and polarity of the magnetic field changes in a pulsed fashion.)  Clinical results found here.

Research confirms improved circulation of blood and lymph, increased oxygen levels in the blood result from the application of pulsed magnetic fields (PEMF).  The body may benefit in many ways—reduced inflammation, accelerated wound and bone healing, reduced swelling, and pain relief of dull aches caused by impaired circulation.  It is not surprising, then, that the use of the Beck units helps some to overcome the most serious illnesses.  Some practitioners report that, in effect, the PEMF  ‘denatures’ tumors.   NOTE: The PEMF devices should not be activated near computers, credit cards and other magnetically imprinted materials.

The Brain Tuner is a Cranial Electrical Stimulation (CES) unit.  CES devices have been proven effective as therapy for anxiety, depression, insomnia, and even addictions.  Whereas the ‘blood electrifier’ delivers microcurrents to the blood, the ‘brain tuner’ is designed to deliver microcurrents at specific frequencies which stimulate the release of our natural neurotransmitters.  (Our own neurotransmitters are inhibited by stress).  Beck designed a device to accomplish what the $50,000 Pharmacon device did which also includes frequencies shown to promote tissue regeneration, induce beta-endorphin release (pain relief) and that of other neurotransmitters.  (Beck won the Fetzer foundation pioneering award in 1990 for his work in brain research in the 1980’s. The culmination of this research was the development of the Brain Tuner, a cranial, electro-stimulation (CES) unit.)  Beck, talking about stress-related symptoms, reported in a lecture, “.. about 95% of the people who use these devices for a period of less than a month, find complete reversal of these symptoms (insomnia, addiction, anxiety and depression).”  He did not seek FDA approval for his devices because, in his words,  “..the public won’t be able to access it” due to cost or required medical prescription.

Studies are still ongoing in many of these areas, but people are noticing marked improvements in the treatment of ADD, phobias, and addictions (including prescription drug addiction), sleep, negative behavior patterns and memory loss.

How To Make/Obtain These Devices

Dr Beck wrote out all his instructions in his book A First Aid Kit of the Future: The Beck Protocol. Here is Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3 which describe the patents, magazine articles, making the devices yourself,  the protocols and the results.  (I differ on his view of destroying microbes and have a different understanding of how these work in the body as described above.)   His devices can be made for very little money.    Several companies make these for the electronically impaired.  (But I have a physics degree and a masters in electrical engineering and decided not to tackle the components and soldering gun but rather to find the already working and tested units commercially available.)  Please contact me privately below for commercially available units since the manufacturers of these units wish to remain separate from information regarding how some people use these units….since results may vary.

    Dear Pat,
VERY, VERY, VERY interesting indeed! I look forward to discussing further with you tonight (7:30). Sorry it took so long to get back with you; we had to re-build our computer and of course, everything always takes longer than you anticipate.

  2. Michael Sorokach says:

OOPs — I hit the return button. Anyway, if electricity can help anxiety, depression, etc., that is really great! I am willing to try it; do you see any safety issues, which we can discuss tonight.
The article was fascinating and too bad this is not being used more. I guess the pharmecutical industry would not be too happy if it helps everything you mentioned in the article. Good job on writing the article too; it was an interesting and understandable read. Thanks – Michael Sorokach

  3. Dick Baublitz says:

I wonder what I can take to replace the Toprol I take for High Blood Pressure and the Allopurinol I take for Gout?

Please let me know – OK?

    • PatBlockND says:

      Hey Dick,
From the foundations of natural healing, the goal is not to replace a drug with a natural substance, but rather to address the underlying cause of why your heart had to beat harder (in the case of high blood pressure) in the first case. And gout is a common side effect of BP meds, but since not every one on HBP meds gets gout, there is often an underlying weakness there too. I discuss reasons that BP has to go up as an intelligent response of the body in this post.
But I was wondering if using your psychic abilities, you could see where in your body the imbalance is? And then with the same ability determine which herbs may be helpful to help the tissue heal or function better for you. I’m thinking that if you were to use a list like this one to start, you could determine your own course of remedies one after the other.
Just a thought….or an exercise for the interested student.

I just got the micro-current pulser for blood electrification, I take vitamins and 2 ibuprofen in a daily bases.
Based on Dr Beck’s conference the electricity on the blood multiplies the effect of meds.
Is there any information available in this regard. I need to know if I should stop taking the Vitamins and the ibuprofen before doing the blood electrification.
Thanks in advance for any assistance. 🙂

    • PatBlockND says:

      Hello Sara,
There are no double blind placebo controlled cross-over studies on this at all. From what I have read there is only conjecture promoting caution. What I would do is stop the vitamins and ibuprofen for a day or two and then begin with the micropulsing. See what your results are over the course of a week or so. Then, if you still feel you need the vitamins, etc, introduce one thing at a greatly reduced dosage and see how you do. Then you will have your answer and not someone else’s guess.

      • Sara says:

Thank you so much! I did follow your recommendations and all worked well.
The skin in my wrist area gets irritated and have to wait several days until I can apply the micro currents again.
Is there any way to prevent this?
Sorry for the delay in my response, you know, life is busy and crazy, I have kept you in mind every day!
        To your health and success!!
        Sara

        • PatBlockND says:

          Sara,
You will get quick relief by applying Silver Gel after removing the electrode pads. You can even try applying a little to the skin areas that the pads touch before pulsing. Just keep in mind that there should be no conductive path across the top of the skin between the two pads. This makes the current go through the body tissues which produces the good effects.
          Pat
