Cabbage Juice – Vitamin U for Ulcers
One of the first natural kitchen remedies that made a big difference in the way I felt was cabbage juice. It felt so good in my stomach and at the time I had no idea why – and maybe I still don’t, but clearly it is a powerful rectifier of a stress affected gut. It is simple to make.
- 1/2 head cabbage
- 2 1/2 cup filtered or bottled water
Cut cabbage into blender-sized pieces. Add the water to liquefy it in the blender (or processor).
Pour it into a seal-able glass container and allow to sit on the counter 3-5 days. Summer temps need less fermentation time than winter. The mixture will naturally separate.
Label the lid with the start date.
To harvest, strain and press through a sieve, recap and store in the refrigerator. Yields about 3 cups of strained cabbage juice depending on the size and moisture content of your cabbage. See below for dosing.
Notes: This will smell awful when you open it….which you must do to strain it (which I’d do outside away from the house). Also consider storing the strained cabbage juice in a tightly sealed container which is easy to open, sip and quickly close. A plastic shake container or sports drink container with measurements on the side is ideal to easily determine dosage. (If you have such a container without markings then use a 1/4 cup measure to add water to the container and make a mark at the level of the water. Then add another 1/4 cup and make the 1/2 cup mark. Continue until the container has markings every 1/4 cup to the top.)
Some of the strained juice (a tablespoon or so) from this batch may be added to the next batch of blenderized cabbage and the culturing time required can be cut in half.
Dosing. You cannot overdose on this. The minimum therapeutic dose for an extremely ulcerated gut is 1/4 cup 4X/day. Some anecdotal evidence shows that 2 weeks minimum is needed to heal the ulcers. However if you address the stress so you don’t add to the problem that you are trying to fix, it may take less time.
This can be added to the Easy Broth Drink, but you will need to keep it lidded too. If you have ulcers you should avoid raw foods, follow your blood type diet and slowly reintroduce your normal foods noting which ones may be problematic.
Consider this…..I have learned more from very sick people than I have from double-blind, placebo-controlled, cross-over studies. My sick clients taught me how to get them well - things that even my teachers didn't know. I have such smart clients.
